I conducted a class for students in the Department of Product Design at Kyoto University of the Arts together with Cecilia Wahlberg, a Senior Lecturer at KONSTFACK.

Cecilia’s designs are highly decorative and a pleasure to behold.

Her research focuses on aesthetics, and her subject matter extends beyond design to include art as well. → LINK

To coincide with her visit to Japan, we held a two-day workshop together.

Focusing on “form”, a key aspect of her field of expertise, we structured the programme to incorporate my own perspective on the relationship between people and tools.

When conducting classes with visiting instructors, I aim to provide experiences that are not usually available at our university.

Once again, this turned out to be an intriguing workshop that differed from conventional product design education, which typically approaches form from a functional perspective, by using form as the starting point to rethink the design of existing tools.

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Cecilia for dedicating her time in Japan to this workshop.

今回は彼女の来日に合わせ共に2日間のワークショップを行うことにしました。

彼女の専門領域の面白さである 形 を主にしたワークショップを軸に、私の人と道具の関係性をそこに添わせる内容にしました。

海外の教諭と共に行う授業では、なるべく本学ではできない授業を実施しようと心がけています。

今回も、機能性をベースに形を考える従来のプロダクトデザイン教育とは異なる、形を発端に既存の道具のデザインを考え直す興味深いワークショップになりました。
