(Nebuta)

Kyoto university of the arts 2015, 2016

First-year students from all the departments join the workshop every Monday from 9:00 to 16:10.

The purpose of the workshop is “to achieve one goal in union”, “to work together acknowledging each other’s characters and making the best use of their diversities”, and “to think and move on one’s own”.

As the culmination of the workshop, the students spend two weeks of summer holidays making a Nebuta.

They formulate a concept and discuss how they can express the concept in the union. They also design, plan a schedule of production, and make it in the union. This is a challenge where they are tested for what they foster in the preceding process of the workshop.

After the production of Nebuta, we take a break and make time for the review.

During the review, some students share their joy with others in tears and others tell what they couldn’t achieve in bitter tears.

They can shed joyful and bitter tears because they commit with all their energy.

I believe that my role is to create such a learning environment.

We exhibited about 20 Nebutas in the campus.

Yukiko is the name for this Nebuta.
