Design workshop for Metropolia

Helsinki,  Finland   2016

I stayed as a guest teacher at Metropolia University of applied sciences in Finland.

It was my first time giving lectures abroad after studying English for half a year.

There are many students in Finland who joined university again after having worked for some time, so I met students who are about the same age as me.

Some of the students told me, "It doesn't matter if you are speaking correct English or not, we want to know what you are thinking." This made me think that I should not be afraid to tell them what I am thinking even if it is in poor English. Even though my words were poor, I could tell from the students' output that they understood what I wanted to say.

My lecture got a favorable reception from the students, who gave me a lot of good feedback after my last lecture. They also gave me letters and parting gifts. It really was a great experience for me.

Thanks to the teachers and students at Metropolia, I saw the fun of giving lectures abroad. I am grateful from the bottom of my heart.

Also, I was really glad that a few of the students of Metropolia came to my university as exchange students next year, saying that they wanted to take my classes.  It was a staying that taught me essential joy as a teacher.
